Thank you for taking the time to read about why this charity exists
On November 13, 2008, Andrea Ervin wrote a nice article entitled "Charity Poker Run Honors Man's Memory". She captured in wonderful words, why this charity exists today. You may read her article here.
On December 5th, 2001, Darrell Jr. was killed in front of his family's home. Darrell was 24 years old and full of life. Darrell with his funny outgoing personality was a giver and a helper. It showed by the 700 people that came to his memorial services. Darrell loved to help the homeless and did so by donating his time to help serve homeless dinners, and never passing someone by without giving them a dollar or two. On Darrell's last Christmas, he was able to make a boys Christmas by purchasing a bike that the boy wanted.
We would like to keep Darrell's spirit alive by having a yearly Poker Run in Darrell's memory. Darrell was doing the final touches on his Harley when he came over to his family's home to work on his bike the night he was killed. We picked this event for a fun filled day that Darrell would want us all to enjoy. But most important...the donation you give will help us raise money for a child in need in Darrell Brian Ashford Jr's memory.
